(From the February 2008 issue of Focus on Small Business) Shotblast is an accurate description not only of the work performed by Peninsula Powder Coating, Inc., but of the enormous growth experienced by this small business. Brian Baccus started his company in Baraga (located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) in 2004 as one of the few Midwest companies that can shotblast parts as large as 40 feet long and 12 feet wide, and powder coat parts up to 24 feet long, 12 feet wide and 10 feet high. Within one year of starting his company, Baccus went from flipping coins with his one employee to see who would handle the orders as they trickled in, to hiring 10 full-time employees by yearend and paying off his start-up loan.
