Letter from the President

By Brian Calley

No one knows better than small businesses how tight the labor market is. We have essentially been at full employment for a couple of years now. Across the nation, employers from large to small have been finding new ways to build their team.

We at SBAM are committed to working alongside you with solutions. We are constantly monitoring and studying trends and best practices across the country. One area that has really taken off is a strategic focus on hiring more people with disabilities. That’s why we are inviting you to be a part of the MI Hidden Talent Workshop on October 28th.

This is a free, one-day seminar that will equip you and your team with the tools you need to enhance your team by intentionally recruiting, hiring and retaining a largely untapped portion of the labor market.

This is NOT about charity. A person with a disability has to be innovative, determined, creative and have perseverance to do many of the things that the rest of us take for granted. Those are all awesome qualities to have in your workforce. Imagine having more employees who at their core know how to face and overcome challenges.

Employers who intentionally recruit and hire people with disabilities report that when properly accommodated, people with disabilities perform at or even above their peers. Loyalty and longevity of employment tends to be better too. And that just scratches the surface of the potential benefits of exploring this opportunity.

So here are my asks of you:

1) Please attend this seminar. It will feature access to free tailored consultation resources after the seminar to help you get started. We have a capacity for 300 people. You can register here.

2) Share this video posted to the SBAM Facebook page to your social media networks so others may learn about this opportunity.

3) If you support this mission, please consider being a sponsor. This is important work and we want to make sure we can offer large scale education seminars like this without any registration costs. Click here to see exclusive SBAM member sponsorship opportunities.
