Halt Unemployment Rate Increases
During the state mandates shutdowns of our economy, Michigan experienced a dramatic increase in use of the Michigan Unemployment Fund. Small Businesses did not cause the increased use of the unemployment system and their taxes should not be raised to pay for it.
Many small businesses are just trying to survive this pandemic. This proposed legislation is necessary in order to make sure Michigan small business are not on the hook for the increase in costs.
Specifically, this legislation prevents an increase to the taxable wage limit your unemployment assessment is applied to when the fund dips below $2.5 billion during the pandemic.
The Michigan House of Representatives is taking this legislation up this week, so please reach out to your State Legislators and the Governor and urge them to support HB 6136.
