Small Business Weekly Podcast – Episode 532 (9:40)
Strong core values and a team-first mindset are key to building a workplace where employees thrive.
On a recent episode of The Small Business Weekly Podcast, Michael Rogers talks with Sonny Anani, president of Dynamic Glazing Systems, about how a focus on teamwork and purpose has helped his company earn recognition as a “Great Place to Work.”
Dynamic Glazing Systems, a Detroit-based commercial glazing contractor specializing in glass and metal facades, was recognized this year by Michigan Celebrates Small Business as part of the Michigan 50 Distinguished Alumni Award – Great Place to Work. Anani and his team have built a strong reputation not only for their craftsmanship, but for the culture they’ve intentionally developed within the organization.
At the heart of that culture is a “team before self” philosophy, which prioritizes collaboration, support, and shared success. Paired with their “ignite purpose” core value, the company focuses on aligning roles with individual passions – helping employees feel more connected to their work and invested in the company’s success.
Anani explains that attracting and retaining talent requires more than just competing within your own industry. In today’s workforce, businesses are competing across sectors, as employees look for opportunities that offer both professional growth and personal fulfillment.
“We aren’t just competing with glazing contractors; we’re competing with everybody’s talent pool – construction, real estate, hospitality,” Anani says. “People are looking to buy their peace and time back. If you provide good compensation, insurance, and retirement, people are willing to come. Those people then create value, and it’s a cycle that keeps giving.”
In addition to offering competitive benefits, Anani emphasizes that fostering a positive workplace culture is essential for long-term success. When employees feel valued and supported, they are more engaged, more productive, and more likely to contribute to a strong, sustainable business.
As workforce expectations continue to evolve, Anani encourages small business owners to invest in their people and build cultures rooted in purpose and collaboration. A strong team, he notes, is one of the most powerful drivers of business success.
