During National Small Business Week, we take the opportunity to honor the incredible contributions of small businesses across the nation, and right here in Michigan. From May 4th to May 10th, 2025, we celebrate the resilience, innovation, and dedication of small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Since 1963, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has been highlighting the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners through National Small Business Week. This year’s theme, “Empowering Business Owners for the Future,” highlights the spirit of entrepreneurship that drives our nation forward.
The SBA, in collaboration with SCORE, will host a free virtual summit on May 6-7. This online event will feature educational workshops, access to federal resources, and networking opportunities. From building business credit to navigating government contracts and exploring financing options, the programming is designed to meet business owners’ needs whether they’re just starting out or preparing for their next stage of growth.
Small Business Week is a time to support local businesses and advocate for policies that help them thrive. As SBAM President & CEO Brian Calley stated, “Small businesses are vested members of our communities and the largest job creators in our state. We cannot take small businesses for granted.”
Recently, we celebrated the achievements of 90 small businesses at the Michigan Celebrates Small Business (MCSB) gala. These businesses were recognized for their role in growing the state’s economy, creating jobs, and being integral parts of their communities. The event highlighted the remarkable resilience and innovation of Michigan’s small business owners, and we are proud to honor their contributions.
SBAM has been instrumental in advocating for small businesses and providing valuable resources through initiatives like the Michigan Entrepreneurship Score Card. This annual report offers a comprehensive evaluation of Michigan’s economic strength, with a focus on the entrepreneurial economy. You can find more information and access the latest Score Card on our website.
