Charles explains that Michigan’s geography gives the state a significant advantage when it comes to water quality. Thanks to glacial drift and natural clay layers, groundwater is often filtered before reaching wells, helping reduce contaminants and improve overall water conditions for residents and businesses.
“Michigan is fortunate because our glacial drift and clay layers can filter some contaminants out before it hits the water supply,” Charles says. “Overall, quality in Michigan is relatively good. We have some iron, manganese, and calcium, but it is treatable. In some areas like Ohio and Pennsylvania, the water is so sulfury it is almost untreatable. Michigan has great water.”
