LEADS: A New Program to Boost Workplace Mental Health

December 1, 2025

Michigan employers now have a powerful new resource to support mental health in the workplace. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) has launched the LEADS program—an initiative designed to help businesses create healthier, more productive work environments.

This image outlines the steps in LEO’s new mental health initiative, LEADS.

What is LEADS?

LEADS (Learn, Educate, Act, Deploy, Study) is the pilot program from LEO’s Healthy Work Healthy Mind initiative. Designed for Michigan employers ready to take the next step, this six-month, consultant-supported program helps businesses assess, educate and transform their workplace culture to prioritize mental health and employee wellbeing. By participating, businesses can:

  • Foster a culture of support and inclusion
  • Improve employee well-being
  • Reduce burnout and turnover
