Michigan’s Unemployment Insurance Agency Delays the Rollout of MiUI System

Earlier this month, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) announced a delay to the go-live date for their new MiUI application. The UIA has been engaged in a multi-year modernization effort as they replace their current computer system, MiWAM, with MiUI. This new system will provide a modern user experience while increasing the efficiency of tax reporting and incorporate new anti-fraud practices.
The Agency planned for a two-stage launch, where employers and third-party administrators were meant to transition to MiUI on December 15th, before claimants were eventually moved to the new application in Summer 2026. The recently announced delay will postpone the employer launch to sometime early next year, with the specific date not yet announced. This delay is not expected to affect the anticipated Summer 2026 transition for claimants.
For employers, this change in deadline will mean that they should prepare to file their 2025 fourth quarter wage reports in the current MiWAM system – not MiUI, as was initially planned. These wage reports are due on January 26th, 2026. To accommodate this, the UIA have restored function to necessary aspects of MiWAM that had been shut down to prepare for the new system launch.
For more information on how you can prepare for Michigan’s new MiUI system, the UIA post regular updates and tips on their MiUI University page (LEO – MiUI Resources for Employers and TPAs). SBAM staff will continue to update members on the latest in this new system launch.
