If you haven’t yet logged into Michigan’s new Unemployment Insurance platform, MiUI, now is the time. The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) has officially launched the tax side of their new MiUI system, and quarterly wage reports are due in the new system Monday, April 27. To help small business owners and administrators get up to speed, the UIA is rolling out a series of free online seminars beginning this week.
Starting Wednesday, April 8, UIA will host live online seminars for employers and TPAs with sessions also scheduled for April 15th and April 22nd. Each session will feature an overview of the wage reporting and payment processes in MiUI, including live demonstrations and the chance to ask any questions you may have. For employers and TPAs who handle payroll, these seminars are a good way to ensure you are up to speed before the April 27 deadline.
View the link to sign up for a session online and look for the seminar titled “Employer/TPA Seminars on MiUI with UIA staff.”
For those who are not available to attend one of these seminars, UIA has built a thorough resource guide, called MiUI on their MiUI University website. This site includes specific guidance for quarterly reports, payment requirements, and acceptable file formats for the new system (the MiWAM file format (Form 1028) will no longer be accepted).
Background:
The UIA has been transitioning from it’s old MiWAM system to a new platform called MiUI, which is designed to deliver a more user friendly and secure experience for employers and third-party administrators (TPAs). MiUI is rolling out their launch in two phases. Tax functions for employers and TPAs are now live, with benefits functions scheduled to be available this summer.
