Michigan’s Unemployment Services, MIWAM, Blackout Feb 18-22

February 10, 2026

Article written by SBAM’s Advocacy team

Michigan’s Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is in process of transferring their online services to a new system, called MiUI. This new system will replace the current system, MiWAM, in the coming months. The UIA recently advised employers of an upcoming blackout period, where users will be unable to access MiWAM services as the Agency transfers data to MiUI. Beginning at 4:30 pm Wednesday, February 18th through Sunday, February 22nd, MiWAM services will be paused and unavailable to employers. On Monday, February 23rd, access to MiWAM will be restored, although many core functions will have transitions into the new system.

To prepare employers for the new system transfer, UIA recommends a series of steps employers can do to prepare now for MiUI.

  1. Your system administrator(s) and any other users associated with your Employer/TPA should have a MiLogin for Business account.
  2. Confirm you can access your MiWAM account. You will need your MiUI activation code from your MiWAM account to initiate your new MiUI account.
  3. Review and update contact information, payment methods, and user permissions in MiWAM.
  4. Review current TPA-employer associations and role assignments, and understand what roles the TPAs will have in MiUI.
  5. Review the MiUI wage report file formats and test your files with the Wage Report File Validation tool to prepare for your first submission.

The Agency has more information listed on their MiUI University website.

We at SBAM will continue to keep members updated on the latest developments and requirements for this new system.
