(Detroit) Nov. 10, 2021 – The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) honored brother and sister, Chief Executive Officer Mark Ware and Vice President of Sales & Marketing Liz Ware of Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island with 2021’s prestigious Hospitality Star of the Year Award. This is the state association’s top hospitality award and the first time a brother and sister have been awarded together. The industry awards dinner and celebration was held at MotorCity Casino in conjunction with the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

The Hospitality Star of the Year Award acknowledges visionaries who have maintained the highest standards of hospitality and who have continually sought to surpass expectations by mentoring rising peer stars and developing new practices, which positively impact the guest experience. “We are honored to bestow this prestigious award to Mark and Liz. Their passion for hospitality, their family’s resort, and their team are the epitome of the Spirit of Hospitality,” said Justin Winslow, President, MRLA. “I know we are going to see much more from this dynamic duo who represent our industry with excellence.”

“We are thrilled to have earned the Hospitality Star of the Year award from the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association,” said Mark Ware, Chief Executive Officer. “As a family-owned business, we are passionate about our core values, working hard together to go the extra mile and do the right thing with Michigan pride. We are incredibly proud of our team at Mission Point who exemplify the meaning of hospitality both externally with guests and internally among colleagues.”

“Mission Point has continued to pivot and adapt to the ever-changing travel landscape. This award is a direct reflection of our commitment to creating extraordinary Mackinac Island experiences both for our guests and our internal team,” said Liz Ware, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “While this award was given to members of the Ware family, our achievements are made possible by our entire Mission Point family who so passionately deliver on our brand promise.”

In late 2014, Mission Point Resort was purchased by Dennert and Suzanne Ware. Two of their six children, made up of five biological and one foster child, set a course to reimagine the 18-acre property with maintenance and necessary improvements. This dynamic brother and sister team brought a variety of skill sets to the table, allowing them to leverage each other’s talents while possessing passion for the island and resort, as well as the dedicated Mission Point team.

Mark and Liz are active in the local community, region and throughout the nation. Mark is the President of the Mackinac Arts Council and is on the board of the Small Business Association of Michigan. Previously, he was the Director of Business Operations for Patient Care Services at Stanford Health Care, where he was responsible for the financial planning and business processes for 22 patient care units and the Emergency Department. Liz is on the boards of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau, and the Michigan Historic Preservation Network. Previously, she was previously the Chief Rainmaker at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Both Wares actively lobby in Michigan and Washington, D.C. on behalf of H2B Visas and the travel and tourism industry.
