Partnering with the Michigan Black Business Alliance: Advocating for Small Businesses Across Michigan

February 20, 2025

As we celebrate Black History Month, we are proud to highlight our valued Strategic Partner, the Michigan Black Business Alliance (MBBA). Our collaboration with MBBA is a testament to our shared commitment to advocating for all small businesses across Michigan.

The Michigan Black Business Alliance, formerly known as the Metro Detroit Black Business Alliance, has expanded its reach statewide, thanks to an appropriation last year from the state legislature. This expansion allows MBBA to pilot programs in Lansing and Flint, furthering their mission to close the racial wealth gap and provide essential resources to Black-owned businesses.

MBBA’s unique programs, such as Capital Connect, are designed to offer technical assistance, access to low-cost capital, and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs. Their bold policy advocacy has made significant strides in ensuring that small businesses are recognized as essential drivers of economic development.

Charity Dean, the President and CEO of MBBA, emphasizes the importance of intentionality in their work.

“Our unique programs and bold policy advocacy have helped decision-makers begin to approach small businesses as essential drivers of economic development,” Dean told BridgeDetroit.

This intentionality has led to growth for Black businesses, not just in Metro Detroit, but now across the entire state.

We are honored to partner with MBBA and support their mission. Together, we are working towards a future where all small businesses have the opportunity to thrive. Join us in celebrating the achievements of the Michigan Black Business Alliance and the incredible impact they have on our community.
