Small Business Association of Michigan Foundation Announces Applications Now Open for Initiative to Support Child Care Providers with Business Tools

June 11, 2026

Free education and coaching now available to help Michigan child care providers strengthen operations and grow

Lansing, MI – The Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) Foundation has announced that applications are officially open for child care providers seeking specialized business support through a newly launched statewide hub network. The SBAM Foundation was selected as the primary hub for the initiative where they will connect small business owners with free education, coaching, and resources to help them stabilize operations and expand access for working families.

Child care is a critical workforce issue, as its availability directly impacts Michigan’s overall economy. This new hub is designed to close the gap for community-based providers who operate under intense operational, financial, and regulatory demands.

“Child care providers are small business owners who play an essential role in our local economies, but they are dealing with an incredibly complex landscape,” said Brian Calley, President and CEO of SBAM. “By connecting community-based educators with specialized coaching and technical assistance, we are empowering small businesses to stay open and grow to serve more families. When these providers succeed, our communities become more stable, and parents can confidently remain in the workforce.”

The initiative is led by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Small Business Support Hub, and Pulse at the W.E. Upjohn Institute.

Applications for the program are now being accepted. Providers throughout Michigan are encouraged to apply.
