Small Business Association of Michigan names Speaker of the House Matt Hall as a 2025 Legislator of the Year

LANSING, MI – The Small Business Association of Michigan has honored Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall as a 2025 Legislator of the Year.
“Speaker Hall has always been a champion for small businesses and went above and beyond with his work to protect the future of small business growth by amending the Earned Sick Time Act and prohibiting the phase out of the tipped wage credit,” said Brian Calley, President and CEO of SBAM. “Matt Hall is fearless in his protection of small businesses and their employees. We know he will continue to be a strong voice at the Capitol for future challenges faced by the small business community, and we’re incredibly proud to honor Speaker Hall as our 2025 Legislator of the Year.”
SBAM honored Hall for his steadfast commitment to securing changes during the previous legislative session to wage and leave policies that would have decimated small businesses. Despite a rigorous schedule as Speaker, he has also made time to attend and speak at numerous SBAM events showing his commitment to hearing directly from small business owners across Michigan.
“It’s a big honor to be recognized by SBAM as a 2025 Legislator of the Year,” Hall said. “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and they’re very important to my community. I will always stand up for the small businesses and employees that count on us to help. We’re going to continue defending the small business community from bad policies and find new ways to help them grow and expand into the future.”
Hall represents the 42nd District in the Michigan House of Representatives, which includes parts of Kalamazoo and Allegan counties. As the Speaker of the House, he is focused on making life more affordable for Michiganders, providing value for taxpayer dollars, and restoring trust in government.
The award was presented to Speaker Hall on June 17 during SBAM’s annual meeting in Lansing.
