Small Business Weekly Podcast — Episode 533 (11:41)
Downsizing can be overwhelming, but with the right support, it doesn’t have to be.
On a recent episode of The Small Business Weekly Podcast, Michael Rogers talks with Sharon McRill, owner of The Betty Brigade, about how her business is helping individuals and families manage the complex process of downsizing in today’s aging landscape.
The Betty Brigade, a nationwide service provider and 2026 Michigan 50 Company to Watch, specializes in supporting clients through major life transitions. From organizing and moving to trust liquidations, the company delivers end-to-end solutions designed to simplify the process while preserving what matters most.
At the heart of the business is a highly personalized approach. McRill emphasizes that no two situations are the same, and each client requires a tailored plan based on their needs, timeline, and circumstances.
“We help people wherever they are, with whatever they need,” McRill says. “Sometimes it’s just organizing and moving, sometimes as we’re clearing out a trust stuff needs to be shipped to beneficiaries all over the world. We handle that, too. So it’s really about figuring out what is the right solution for that home and then putting together a plan for it.”
McRill’s work is deeply connected to what she calls the “Silver Tsunami” – the growing number of aging individuals and families facing the emotional and logistical challenges of downsizing. As the author of Downsizing the Silver Tsunami, she brings a unique perspective to the process, highlighting the psychological impact that often accompanies these decisions.
Beyond logistics, McRill emphasizes the importance of empathy and communication. Downsizing isn’t just about clearing a space – it’s about honoring memories, helping families transition, and making the experience as smooth as possible during what can often be a difficult time.
As more families face these transitions, McRill encourages business owners to recognize the human side of service and focus on delivering solutions that are both practical and compassionate.
