What Small Business Owners Need to Know About Natural Gas Safety and Natural Gas Costs

When it comes to safety, Wilson says awareness is key. Business owners and employees should know how to recognize the signs of a potential natural gas leak and what to do if they suspect one.

“Natural gas safety starts with awareness,” Wilson says. “You need to notice signs of a leak, leave the area immediately if you suspect one and call 911 and then DTE from a safe location. We’ll respond 24/7 and it’s always free.”

The conversation also touches on Gas Choice, which allows customers to choose an alternative supplier for the natural gas commodity portion of their bill.

Wilson encourages business owners to take a closer look at their natural gas bill to understand whether they are participating in Gas Choice and who supplies their natural gas.

“We always encourage our business customers to check the natural gas supplier section of their bill, see whether they’re participating in Gas Choice and identify who supplies your natural gas,” Wilson says. “It’s always a good idea, especially before the winter comes, to review the information and understand the arrangement between your business and your supplier.”

For small business owners, taking the time to understand both natural gas safety and their current supply arrangement can help them stay informed about an important part of their business operations.
