CTA: Stop cancellation of small business relief to fund big business incentives
Retiree tax cuts are now being combined into a bill with a one-time $180 tax rebate for individual filers ($90 each for joint filers). It is being presented to legislators that if they want to provide tax relief to retirees, they must fund large corporate earmarks and cancel small business tax relief. But the Legislature and the Governor do not have to choose.
There is a massive $9 billion surplus in state government – and tax relief due to small businesses and individuals is just under $700 million. This dollar amount pales in comparison to the other relief options on the table. There is no excuse for taking away small business tax relief.
The House of Representatives passed this bill on February 9th but the Senate and Governor still need to hear from you!
